QuSoft is delighted to announce that Professor Matthias Christandl has been appointed as the 2024 Turing Chair. A leading researcher in quantum information theory, Professor Christandl will be visiting Amsterdam at various intervals between October 2024 and early 2025. His appointment as Turing Chair promises to foster a diverse range of academic activities, discussions, and collaborations, enriching the QuSoft and Amsterdam scientific communities.
About the Turing Chair 2024
The Turing Chair is a rotating honorary position at the Faculty of Science of the University of Amsterdam, associated with QuSoft. Previous Turing Chairs include distinguished researchers such as Gilles Brassard (2022-2023). Professor Christandl is a Professor of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen, Center Leader of the Quantum for Life Center funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and co-PI (principal investigator) of the VILLUM Foundation’s QMATH center (Centre for the Mathematics of Quantum Theory). He is also head of the UCPH Quantum Hub, a cross-departmental and cross-faculty collaborative initiative. His extensive expertise spans quantum information, quantum cryptography, and mathematical physics.
Engagements and Activities
During his stay in Amsterdam, Matthias Christandl will engage with the QuSoft community through various activities, including:
- October 2024: His visit kicks off with a QuSoft seminar on Monday, October 7. He will also participate in QuLunch, guest lectures for the MSc Quantum Computer Science program, and a discussion with the Quantum Computers for Quantum Chemistry (QC2) group on October 14.
- December 2024: On December 3, Matthias will deliver a lecture at the General Mathematics Colloquium. The colloquium is organized by Jeroen Zuiddam, Eni Musta, and Krystal Guo.
- Early 2025: Matthias is expected to contribute to the EQSI event, focusing on the future of quantum computing in Europe.
